AT RECENT CONFERENCE IMPORTANCE EMPHASISED BY CHURCHILL. “OFF THE RECORD” INTERVIEW AT CAIRO. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, December 10. The British Prime Minister (Mr Winston Churchill) held an “off the record” Press conference at the British Embassy in Cairo today. He appeared to be in the best of health and very chperful. He paid a tribute to the complete and unshaken unity of the British and Americans and emphasised the significance of the historic decisions taken at the recent conference. 1 - He discussed the Balkans, Turkey, Japan, the Russian front, the Pacific front, the Italian front, the U-boat war, Anglo-American relations, the bombing offensive and liberty of the subject and the tradition of Habeas Corpus. He touched on the German internal situation, post-war supplies for Europe and Asia and the overriding necessity for speed in the prosecution of the war. With flashes of humour, he made no attempt to conceal his confidence in total victory, but he emphasised that much remained to be done.
Mr Churchill, after the interview, replying to the thanks of t;he Press, gaid: “I was once a foreign correspondent myself. I know the difficulties of getting news and then trying to get it away.
