SCHOOL COMMITTEE f ACCOMMODATION URGENTLY NEEDED. 1 ' (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr H. J. McKenzie presided over the monthly meeting of the Carterton District High School. There were also present: Messrs AV. E, Knowles, P. L. Deere, G. L. Chatwin, C. K. Goodin, G. Stark, R. P. Williams and F. Denbee. The treasurer reported a credit balance at the bank of £lO6 8s Bd. A letter was received from a parent regarding the dust nuisance and draught in the Ahiaruhe School bus, (asking if something could be clone Jin the matter. It was resolved to write to the parent explaining the position. The Town Clerk wrote stating that a request had been made That the small gate giving access to the school grounds be left unlocked during the daytime on Saturdays and Sundays to allow access to the bowling green and tennis courts for members living at the northern end of the town. It was resolved that a deputation consisting of the chairman and secretary wait on' the Borough Council at its next meetr ing in regard to the school gates. The headmaster's report showed that there were 416 pupils on the primary roll and 40 on the secondary. It was resolved that a copy of the headmaster’s report in connection with school accommodation be sent to the Education Board, and that the matter of more accommodation be stressed, as it was urgent. - It was reported that Dexter Bassett, a pupil of the school, had won first prize and Patricia Downes second prize for the best kept book on calf rearing in the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club, in the recent Carterton group judging. Members of the committee extended congratulations to the two pupils. The chairman said the meeting would be the last one before the breaking-up ceremony. He extended the season’s greetings to the headmaster and his staff. Greetings were also extended to the local representative, the manager and staff of the “TimesAge” newspaper, and to the chairman and Mrs McKenzie. It was decided that the chairman and secretary arrange the date of the next meeting of the committee. Bowling. Games played in connection with the Carterton Bowling Club’s competitions! on Thursday night resulted as follow: —Progressive pairs: Colson and Daysh (s) beat E. H. Smith and Hughan (s), 31/22; A. Adams and Tucker (s) beat Clarke and Edwards (s). 24/23. J Champion singles: Riggs beat Edwards, 19/10. • Champion pairs: Johnston and Harris (s) beat E. Smith and Whyte (s), 28/16; Newbould and Sorensen (s) beat Stent and Barber (s), 23/18; Curtis and Tucker (s) beat Spooner and Underhill Vs), 20/14; E. H. Smith and Hughan (s) beat W. and A. E. Hall (s), 18/17. Colts’ singles: T. Harp beat Nicholls. 31/18. Personal. Lieut. A. Lawrence, of the Fleet Air Arm, has left to rejoin his unit, after an extended holiday spent with his father and sister in Carterton..
