GREYTOWN

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age" Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee there were present: Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes, W. Grigg, R. O’Neale, E. Galyer, H. C. Trotman, W. Wiggins and Mrs Knell. The headmaster, Mr S. C. Shedden, reported that the present roll numbers were:—Primary 306, secondary 36. He stated that the third and final inoculation of the seven-year-old children and under against diphtheria had been completed. Twelve new chairs for the secondary department had been received from the Education Board. Miss Sewell, physical drill specialist, was holding special classes during the week. The question of swimming facilities for the pupils was fully discussed by the committee. Mr Trotman reported that the baths were in a bad state and would need considerable repairs. The windows and fittings had been broken, and also several bad cracks had developed in the baths. It was pointed out that the Borough Council had given the Swimming Club control of the baths, but, unfortunately, all its senior members were in the armed forces. It was decided to write to the Council requesting that some steps be taken to enable the baths to be used at an early date. The dental nurse, Miss Cook, reported:—Total on roll of Greytown Dental Clinic, 282 (this includes 44 preschool age children). Total attendances for the month were 137. Bowling. The following will represent Greytown in the Booth Cup fixture at Martinborough on Saturday:—Burden, Larsen, Brunton, Higgison; Reid, Connolly, Shedden, Carter; A. Thompson, Feast, Harrington, McLeod; E. Skeet, Burns, Kiernan, R. Thompson.

TOWN HALL DOUBLE FEATURE BILL. There will be a double feature programme presented tomorrow night at the Town Hall. Gene Autry and ,Smiley Burnette will be seen in the excellent drama of the west, “Singing Hill,” while Gene Tierney and Henry Fonda have the chief roles in the splendid comedy-drama, “Rings on her Fingers.”
