ROAD SAFETY
SCHOOL CHILDREN INSTRUCTED BOROUGH TRAFFIC INSPECTOR'S VISITS ’ The Borough Traffic Inspector, Mr J. McGregor, visited Wairarapa College this morning and gave practical demonstrations and hints on road safety rules. Use was made of cyclists to emphasise his points. A. damaged motor car involved in a recent accident was used to demonstrate an accident in which high speed caused the car to somersault and overturn three times, injuring the occupants. Owing to the increased petrol ration, he said,/there would be more vehicles on the road during the holidays and he urged his hearers to exercise every care and to carry out the rules of the road. Mr McGregor inspected the children's cycles and .found that many were not equipped with rear red reflectors. Mr McGregor pointed out that there was a considerable element of risk in cycling at night without a rear reflector. Mr McGregor said he had completed ten visits to schools in the borough and he hoped that the demonstrations would prove to be of benefit. Mr W. R. Nicol, a member of the Wellington Education Board, said today that the splendid work being done by Mr McGregor was greatly appreciated and its value Avas fully recognised.
