I , RED CROSS SOCIETY I ■ ACTIVITIES REVIEWED. (“Times-Age" Special.) On Saturday afternoon a party was given in the grounds of Longwood by Mrs D. H. S. Riddiford and members of the local sub-centre of the Red Cross Society to relatives and next-of-kin of prisoners of war. Mrs Riddiford welcomed the guests and introduced Mr C. G. White, chairman of the ’Dominion executive, who gave a very interesting address on the activities of the Red Cross Society. He said that there were 1800 parcels packed every day by voluntary workers who worked o days a week. The parcels contained tea, sugar, honey, jam, cheese, coffee, milk, tinned meat and chocolate. All the parcels sent from New Zealand had reached their destination. Mrs Sharp moved a vote of thanks to Mr White for his address and to Mr and Mrs Riddiford which was carried by acclamation. Patriotic Dance. The Town Hall was packed on Saturday night when the Patriotic Dance Committee held an enjoyable dance. The music was supplied by Mrs Ashton’s orchestra. Extras were played by Misses C. Saba, N. Tocker, Sergt. N. Dunning and Cpl. Chaplow. Mr Ashton was M.C. The supper tables were decorated by Miss Jean Tutbury. Supper was served by the committee. Mr Horton expressed thanks on behalf of next-of-kin. Apologies for absence were received from Mr Lee, chairman of the Wairarapa executive, Miss Elliott (secretary) and members of the Wairarapa Executive. Afternoon tea was served. COSY THEATRE “FRIENDLY ENEMIES.’’ On Wednesday night there will be shown the brilliant drama,. “Friendly Enemies," with Charles Winninger, Charles Ruggles and Nancy Kelly in the chief roles.
