Posters on Display

Several posters showing British people how to patch their clothes and household linen were displayed at the Masterton Rotary Club’s luncheon today by Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom. The poster, by means of diagrams and explanatory notes, showed clearly the whole process of mending garments and linen so that anyone could do the work.

Women’s Work. “Women have done a marvellous job of work everywhere but it is generally agreed that Britain leads the world in the use of woman power," said Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom, speaking at the Masterton Rotary Club’s luncheon today. He stated that perhaps their most wonderful feat of all was that last year they produced 66,000 more babies than in any of the preceding ten years. The birth rate was still .rising.
