SPLENDID SHOWING
WAIRARAPA SCOUT RALLY , EKETAHUNA WINS BEETHAM SHIELD BOOTH CHI’ TO MO KATOA CUBS Over three hundred Scouts and Cubs from all parts of the Wairarapa were present at lhe Wairarapa Scout rally al. lhe Maslerlon Park Oval on Saturday afternoon. Teams from Eketahuna, Maslerlon, Carterton, Greytown and Featherston competed for the Beetham Shield and Booth Cup. The weather was ideal and there was a fairly good attendance of the public. A high standard was set in all events and the performances given by lhe boys were most creditable. The programme commenced with a grand parade of Scouts and Cubs. Mr IL N. Barton. County Commissioner, look I lie salute from the Scouts and Miss Nancy Wilson, of Bulls, Akela for New Zealand, took the salute from lhe cubs. The Union Jack was broken from ;i mast and the National Anthem was sung. The Cubs’ grand howl was led by Senior Sheer Owen Henson and (lie Scouls’ welcome haka by District Scoutmaster A. W. Allsop. Mr Barton declared the rally opened. The Mayor of Masterton, Mr T. Jordan, spoke briefly on the ideals of citizenship and service. TROPHIES PRESENTED At the conclusion of the Cub events, Miss Wilson presented the Howard Booth Cup to the Mo-Katoa Cub Pack. In presenting the Beetham Shield to Scoutmaster Trim, Mr Barton congratulated the Eketahuna troop on its fine win. He also commended the other troops on the excellent work shown during the afternoon and hoped all would work hard and come again to the next rally, determined to do their best with the aim of winning the shield. Mr Barton thanked all who had helped to make the afternoon a success, and particularly the judges who did a good job. At his call three hearty cheers were given for the Eketahuna Troop. The Eketahuna team broke its tent (everything packed up and turf replaced) in 2min 9sec—a splendid effort. Mrs F. C. Brockett explained the work that was being clone for disabled Wairarapa service men. A collection taken up for helping these men realised £5 Ils. Mr A. Levick broadcast the results over Mr N. R. Cunningham’s speaker system. CAMP FIRE. In the evening a camp fire was held near the Waipoua River bridge. A happy time was spent in story and song, Yesterday, Wellington and local Scouters had an outing to the Rover Hut at Kiriwhakapapa. Results were: — Scouts.
