IMPRISONED FOR THEFT OF FOOD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 4. A reiterated statement that the moral character of New Zealanders seemed to be changing was made by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in dealing with a soldier, aged 21, charged with the theft of food from a cookhouse where he was employed. They seemed to be thieving everything, .Mr Stout said. He supposed -it was because they were getting big wages and had little to do. When an Army sergeant said the accused was a good cook and an honest worker, and that he was sure he would not have committed the offence had he not been under the influence of liquoi, the magistrate said: "I’m afraid you can’t have him back before fourteen days.” ; I
