YESTERDAY’S RAIN

KURIPUNI CREEK OVERFLOWS DELUGE IN WELLINGTON. Between 9 a.m. and noon yesterday 35 points of rain were recorded in Masterton and from noon to 6 p.m. a further 45 points fell. Wellington had a regular downpour, 3.25 inches being registered yesterday. This is more than the average for the whole of December. As the rain followed a comparatively dry spell it proved beneficial. There was some temporary flooding, but the water quickly disappeared. Considerable flooding occurred at Kuripuni yesterday, as the result of the Kuripuni creek overflowing. Particulary heavy rain fell in this area and the creek waters, found their way down Walton’s Avenue, across Chapel Street and along Crayne Street into Queen Street. The water flowed across portions of several sections in the area.
