EGG MARKETING

DISTRIBUTION IN WAIRARAPA NOW UNDER ONE CENTRAL ORGANISATION. STATEMENT BY HON. B. ROBERTS. It was stated today by the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. B. Roberts, that as a result of discussions which have taken place at Masterton between the Primary Production Council, representatives of the Masterton and Carterton Egg floors, and officers of the Internal Marketing Division, it has been decided to place the distribution of eggs in the Wairarapa Egg' Marketing area under one central organisation. Previously, said Mr Roberts, the Wairarapa district was split into two areas, the northern area being serviced by the Masterton Egg Floor and the southern area by the Carterton Egg Floor. The Primary Production Council and the staff of the two egg floors had rendered splendid service in overcoming the initial difficulties, and the measure of success which had _ been secured in the rational marketing of eggs in the Wairarapa district had been brought about only through.the co-operation of these organisations. Unfortunately, the intake of eggs on the Masterton floor had been insufficient to show a return commensurate with the service given, and although the proprietors of the Masterton floor were prepared to carry on as a war effort, it was decided in the light of experience that the best plan would be to place the whole of the distribution under one organisation. The new central organisation would be under the management of the Carterton Egg Floor, which in turn would be subject to the general supervision and direction of the Internal Marketing Division, and under this arrangement a very substantial measure of economy would be secured. All services would remain the same and the new. proposals were to become effective as from Monday next, December 6, 1943.
