SOVIET ADVANCE
ON WHITE RUSSIA FRONT SUCCESSFUL ENVELOPING MOVEMENT. FURTHER RAPID PROGRESS EXPECTED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) RUGBY, December 3. The Red Army north-west of Gomel has advanced in the whole sector between the Soj and the Dnieper and has pushed the enemy towards the latter river, states a Moscow message. The Germans lost the main junction of roads on the right side of the S.oj 'after the Russians had executed a swift enveloping movement from the north, east and south-east. The attack began in the "dark hours before dawn, with an intense artillery bomb’ardment, disabling the enemy batteries and mowing down barbed wire. Soviet infantry and mobile troops rushed through the gaps under cover of a moving barrage. The Russians have completed the regrouping and reinforcement of their artillery in this sector and further rapid progress is expected. At many points the Germans have been thrown back on natural- defence lines, where they are striving to dig in.
