BOY' SCOUTS CARD TOURNAMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the weekly card tournament conducted by the Boy Scout committee, the results were: —Ladies: Mrs A. Knutson 1. Mrs Lenihan 2. Men: Mr C. Woodbury 1, Messrs F. Jackson, Junr., and A. Knutson, equal, 2. Lamb and Calf Competitions. The annual judging of lambs and calves in connection with the Carterton Group will be held on the local showgrounds qn Saturday. The calves will be judged by Mr W. Hall, and the lambs by Mr W. Howard Booth. Children and parents are asked to bring their own lunch. Tea and drinks will be provided by the committee. The Borthwick Cun. McKenzie Cup, Williams Cup, W.D.F. Union prize, Mr W. Henry Booth's trophy the Renall Cup and two other cups given by anonymous donors are among the trophies to be competed for. Judging will start at 10.30. and the public are invited to attend. Fire Brigade Practice. Members of the Carterton Fire Brigade held a practice on the showgrounds last evening. Practices will be held each Thursday evening in preparation for the brigade’s competitions. Order of Rechabites. The Wellington district provincial council meeting of the Rechabite lodges was held recently in Wellington. The Hope of Carterton Tent sent two delegates, Sister M. A. Haste and the secretary, Bro. W. L. Haste. A special report was presented by the provincial delegate, Bro. Bennett, who attended the recent District Conference held in Christchurch. At the end of the meeting the provincial officers were elected for the coming year. Sister M. A. Haste (Carterton) was elected superintendent of the women members for the provincial district. Vital Statistics In November there were 6 births, 3 marriages and 2 deaths registered in Carterton. Lantern Lecture An historical and prophetical survey of the Books of Daniel vzas the feature of a lantern lecture delivered in the Masonic Hall, Carterton, last night by Mr G. ,R. McChesney, who explained that the image in chapter 2 represented the four world empires of which King Nebuchadnezzar's Babylon was the first. In chapter 7, said the lecturer, these four empires are symbolically shown as beasts, the lion being Babylon, the bear Medo-Pcrsia .and the leopard Greece. The ten-horned nondescript beast will be referred to in the next lecture. These four empires eventuated during Israel’s dispersion and gave rise to a fifth at the chastisement period, this last great empire being the British Empire. Carterton Home Guard. All rifles have been inspected and will be re-issued to guardsmen on Friday, December 10.
