SCOUTS AND CUBS
RALLY IN MASTERTON PARK COMPETITIONS FOR TROPHIES TOMORROW. CAMP FIRE IN EVENING. Over 300 Scouts and Cubs will take part in a big rally to be held in the Masterton Park tomorrow afternoon, on the occasion of the annual district competition for the Beetham Shield and the Booth Cup. The events are to start at 1.30 p.m., and throughout the afternoon interesting competitions and games will be held. The salute at the march past will be taken by Mr R. N. Barton, County Commissioner. Boys will be present from Eketahuna to Featherston. A camp fire will be held between the bridges, near Mawley Park, on Saturday night. Donations are invited for the produce stall, the proceeds of which are to be used to defray the expenses of the rally. Donations may be left .at the Park.
A collection in aid of disabled Wairarapa soldiers will be taken up on the ground. Scouting, it is pointed out, provides individual training for leadership; it is essentially a system of religious education, and it believes in community con-, sciousness.
Many gripping stories of air raid heroism on the part of Scouts have been recorded during the blitzkreig of London and other British cities The gallantry of the boys was almost beyond comprehension, and many brave Scouts have been honoured by the community. Scouts often assisted the rescue squads and spent many hours digging for those trapped in wrecked buildings, and readily risked their lives in doing so.
