ENEMY U-BOAT BASE AT MARSEILLES RESULTS OF EARLIER ATTACK ON TOULON. CRUISER AND OTHER WARSHIPS SUNK. LONDON, December 2. A strong force of American Flying Fortresses crossed the Mediterranean in daylight today to attack the new Üboat base at Marseilles. This Üboat base has been under construction for some months and is nearing completion, it is the first time it has been raided.

Little more than a week ago. the U-boat base at Toulon was raided. It is now known that, in that attack, five enemy warships, including a cruiser, were sunk, five E-boats probably sunk and two armed merchantmen severely damaged. Yesterday American Flying Fortresses made a heavy raid on a ball-bearing works in Northern Italy and on the nearby railway yards and airfield.
