ALFREDTON
PATRIOTIC SOCIETY CARD TOURNAMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at the card tournament held by the Patriotic Society at Alfredton. The winners were: —Ladies, Mrs R. G. Low; men, Mr R. G. Low; ladies’ aggregate prize (donated by Mr J. McKay), Mrs Weston. Messrs P. Jensen, E. Andersen and G. Godinagh tied for the men’s aggregate prize (donated by Mr R. G. Low), and Mr P. Jensen proved the winner on the cut. The consolation prizes, ladies, Mrs O. E. Algie; men, Messrs H. Burch and G. Henderson tied. Mr Burch won on the cut. Both prizes were donated by Mrs O. E. Algie. A competition for a bag of flour, given by Mr H. C. Percy, realised £1 10s 6d, and was won by Mr Francis McDonald, and a further competition, the prize for which was a box of chocolates, was won by Mr Alan Rolls and realised £1 8s 9d. Sales of flowers were: Sweet peas and pinks (donated by Mrs Hurford), 15s; roses (donated by Mrs F. Johnson), 4s lid. Mrs Dickens donated 15s to the funds, and Mrs J. McKay presented three packs of playing cards.
