HEAVY FALL OF RAIN FLOODING IN STREETS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Yesterday afternoon a heavy rain storm broke over Carterton. It was preceded by a loud clap of thunder and rain fell in torrents for fully 20 minutes, the water tables in the town quickly overflowing and flooding portions of the streets. The rain was of considerable benefit to vegetable gardens, but" it held up hay-making operations. DAIRY INDUSTRY WORKERS' UNION RESOLUTION At the annual meeting of the Wai-rarapa-Bush sub-branch of the Dairy Factory Workers’ Union held at Carterton last night the following resolutions were passed; “That this representative meeting of dairy factory workers affirm the dire need of improvements and modernisation of our working conditions with the use of modern machinery in' all factories. Especially is this the case in cheese factories where the long overdue installation of mechanical curd shakers and hydraulic presses demands immediate attention both in the interests of the industry and of the employees. We are also of the opinion that shorter hours must prevail in future and that we as workers in the industry will carry on the fight for a 40-hour week.” Old Post Office Building The remaining portions of the old Carterton Post Office building—the entrance door and the clock tower —were demolished yesterday. Success at Show At the recent Egmont A. and P. Show at Hawera, the local Holstein cattle breeder, Mr M. J. Parker, was awarded the points prize (a gold medal) in Friesians. Bowling. ' Games in club championships played ion Monday evening resulted as foljlows: Champion pairs, Johnson and 'Harris (s) lost to Pankhurst and Barr (s). 23/12; Stent-and Barber (s) beat W. H. and A. E. Hall (s), 27/15. Colts’ handicap pairs: Vaughan and Dew (s) beat Ingley and A. Adams (s), 23/16. Colts’ handicap singles: W. H. Smith beat McPherson, 27/15; Catt beat McGimpsey, 28/15. Champion singles: Newbould beat Curtis, 19/12. W.W.S.A. Dance. On Saturday night the cycle corps 'of the Women’s'War Service Auxiliary will hold a dance in the State Theatre. The proceeds will be devoted to the garden fund for the purpose of providing seed, manure and equipment.
