ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
ECONOMY, STILL NECESSARY. ADDITIONAL CONTROL POWERS TAKEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. “In order’ to assist in the control of the use of electricity in the North Island, and in particular to prepare for next winter’s load, it has become necessary to determine the various types of load which may be connected to the supply system,” stated the Minister of Supply (Mr Sullivan) today. “The Electricity Control Order, 1943, has therefore been amended to include these requirements which in the main cover the types of new load which shall and shall not be connected to the system of supply. Provision is also made in the amendment for certain powers held by the Electricity Controller to be delegated to supply authorities to control the load in their* areas and to meet emergency conditions through plant breakdown, or acute power demands, when in such cases may be necessary to disconnect certain areas of supply. A shortage of generating equipment still exists, due to war conditions, and there is still a necessity to economise in the use of electricity.” The Minister appealed to all consumers to restrict the use of electricity as far as possible and to co-operate with the supply authorities concerned in giving effect to the necessary requirements of this new order amendment.
