An undertaking that he would eschew party politics and would not stand for Parliament if he were elected mayor of Wellington, was given by Cr W. H. Appleton yesterday, when agreeing to the request of a large deputation which waited pn him to ask that he should be a candidate for the mayoralty at next year's local body elections. He also gave an undertaking that he would stand against all-comers. Mr C. W. Clark, Otago, was elected president of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association at its annual meeting in Wellington on Saturday. Other officers elected were: Vicepresidents, presidents of affiliated centres; chairman of management committee. Mr H. I. Austad; hon treasurer, Mr D. T. Woodfield; hon secretary, Mr J. W. Holley; administration committee, Messrs Clark, Woodfield, Holley, Austad and A. C. Kitto; reinstatement committee. Messrs A. L. Stevens, L. A. Tracy, .and Holley; finance committee, Major G. H. Weir, Messrs Woodfield and A. Urquhart; records committee, Messrs S. G. Leeder, Tracy and D. Macpherson; auditor, Mr J. H. Barnett. The funeral of the late Mr F. J. Miller, of Mt. Bruce, took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. There was a large and representative attendance of district settlers. The service at the residence was conducted by Mr Miller’s brother, the Rev. R. Miller, of Manaia, Taranaki, and the service at the graveside was taken by the Rev. D. W. Storkey. A large number of wreaths were in evidence, including those ‘from the manager and staff of Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., Messrs Lyttle and Co., Ltd., and members of the Masterton Golf Club. The pallbearers were Messrs H. A. R. Dunderdale, V. Buick, F. Kibblewhite, B. Fenemore, V. Heath and T. Wyeth.
