The Mareo Case.

A further petition on behalf of Eric Mareo, who is serving a life sentence in the Mt. Eden gaol, having been convicted of the murder of his wife by administering poison to her, has been submitted to the Prisons Board. The petition bears 188 signatures, including those of 12 doctors and several clergymen. It asks that the board “mercifully consider the case of Eric Mareo in the light of the facts set out in the petition and the grave doubt which has arisen as to his being guilty of the crime for which he was sentenced', and recommend to his Excellency the Gov-ernor-General that Mareo be released from serving the remainder of his sentence and that he be discharged from gaol and allowed to start life again.”
