AIR ASSAULT ON FORTRESS EUROPE R.A.F. BLASTS FRANKFURT AMERICANS RAID NORTH-WEST GERMANY LONDON, November 26. British and American aircraft kept up their onslaught on the fortress of Europe today. Heavy bombers of the United States Eighth Army Air Force, escorted by long-range fighters, attacked military targets in North-West Germany this morning. R.A.F. Spitfires flew in protection of American Marauders, which bombed targets near Boulogne. A strong formation of R.A.F. bombers was also busy in this area. Last night’s * main R.A.F. objective was Frankfurt-on-Main. The weather was atrocious. When the Pathfinder crews arrived over the target area they found clouds three miles thick. Temperatures of 36 degrees below freezing point were registered on the journey. The attack was a swift one and was over in half-an-hour. There was little interference from enemy fighters. Mosquito bombers set Berlin’s sirens wailing for the fourth night running. Mines were also laid in enemy waters. From the night’s operations 13 planes did not get back.
