PATTON EPISODE
SENATE COMMITTEE ASKS FOR OFFICIAL REPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) WASHINGTON, November 24.. The Senate Military Affairs Committee has decided to ask the Secretary of War, Mr Stimson, for an official report on the Patton incident, said Senator Downey. He explained that the committee desired the report in connection with President Roosevelts nomination of Lieutenant-General Patton’s promotion to the permanent rank of major-general. General Patton is at present a temporary lieutenantgeneral, but his permanent rank is colonel. President Roosevelt’s recommendation was sent to the Senate on October 1. , , Representative Hoeven (Republican), in the House of Representatives today, demanded an investigation by the Military Affairs Committee of the House. He said that the parents of boys in the service, already weighed down by concern, now have an added anxiety “wondering whether their sons are being abused by hard-boiled officers. Perhaps we have too much blood and guts (General Patton’s nickname) now.”
