COLD COMFORT
FOR PEOPLE OF BERLIN TOLD TO CLENCH FISTS & BEAR WOUNDS. MORE REPRISAL THREATS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 24. The German Press admits the devastation and is calling on the Berliners to “clench your fists and bear your wounds.” After the Berlin radio had been silent tonight for an hour and a half “for technical reasons” Goebbels, as Berlin’s Gaulieter and Defence Commissar, issued a proclamation stating: “The enemy is trying to destroy the places of German culture by terror attacks. The enemy is mistaken if he asumes that Berln’s morale might be worse than that of other German towns. One day the bitter time through which we are now living will end and a new and more beautiful Berlin will rise' after victory from the debris of destroyed houses.” A- Wilhemstrasse spokesman is quoted as saying that Germany will now use her secret weapon to avenge the raids. The Paris radio’s commentator, Jean Paquis, gave over his entire commentary to threats of reprisals for the raids on Berlin. He said: “The bombings are only increasing the determination of the Germans for implacable fiinal reprisals, which will change the face of the war. I would not like to be an Englishman. Nothing will stop the Luftwaffe when it carries in its under-belly the death of a whole people.” The German news agency stated that the raids against Berlin were the gravest carried out against any German town.
