TRAMS COLLIDE
THREE PEOPLE INJURED ACCIDENT IN AIitIKLAND (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 25. Three people were admitted to Auckland Hospital following a tram accident in Upper Queen Street shortly before 8 o’clock this morning. They were: Thomas Ronald Bowen, motorman, Grey Lynn, injuries to the back; Francis Moloney, City Road, bruises to chest; Stephen Dennis Walsh, Morningside, injured ankle. The latter two were passengers. The accident occurred when two citybound trams collided near the Myers Park stop. The first tram had moved a few yards down from the stop when the second, following close behind, began to gather speed. Passengers became alarmed and some prepared to jump from the tram, but changed their minds because of the speed at which it was travelling. The two cars soon collided, completely wrecking the driver’s cabin of the rear tram and causing severe damage to the leading car. Both trams became locked together and went down Upper Queen Street to come to rest when an easier grade was reached and the brakes of the first tram were able to hold the combined weight of both cars. The chairman of the Auckland'Transport Board, Mr W. H. Nagle, said a thorough inquiry would be made.
