Carter; I Miss Ordish (Carterton) sang “Wake ‘ Up” and “When Song is Sweet,” acj companied on the piano by Mrs Orl dish. f A play by Carterton ladies was greatly appreciated. Those taking part i were Mesdames Ordish, Corbett, Lins ton, Stretton and Miss Ordish. Mrs Beu thanked the Carterton lad- ! ies for having entertained the GreyI town ladies. 1 Mrs Ordish congratulated Mrs Beu I and the ladies who took part in the rej cent debate in Carterton. J Mrs Maitland, president of the Car- ; terton branch, was present. ■ | Mrs Gow was the winner of a com-; i petition held. i The hostesses were Mesdames Wig- • gins, Haycock, J. Stringfellow and J. . Morison. It being Mrs Horton’s birthday a 1 bowl of flowers decorated by Mrs Bayliss was sent to- her. i At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs I Beu wished members and visitors the compliments of the season. Personal. The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital yesterday of Mrs Ethel Peterson, wife of Mr Otto Peterson, at the age of 60 years. Besides her husband she leaves a family of five sons and two daughters. The sons are Messrs Harold (Greytown), Trevor and Eddie (Wellington), Jack (overseas) and Ray (in a N.Z. camp), and the daughters, Mesdames M. Jensen (Tokomaru) and McHardy (Greytown). The late Mrs Peterson w 7 as a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Hall, of Greytown. Mr Hall was the first engine-driver on the Greytown branch railway. Mrs Peterson was taken suddenly ill on Wednesday morning. She was removed to the Greytown Hospital, but died without gaining consciousness. She possessed a happy disposition and was held in high esteem. s Mr J. Kiernan has received cable advice that his son, Mr B. Kiernan, has passed his final examination and has been appointed a pilot in the Fleet Air Arm. Memorial Service The Greytown’Odd Fellows will take part in the memorial service to the late Mr J. F. Wallis, which will be held at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening. Members are to assemble at the lodge room at 6.45 ] o’clock. • Bowling ‘ The following will represent Grey- , town in a Booth Cup game to be played at Martinborough on Saturday: Burden, Maddison, Dennes, Higgison j (s); A. Thompson, H. Feast, Harrington, McLeod (s); E. Sheet, G. Burns, J. j Kiernan, R. Thompson (s); Reid, Connolly, Shedden, Carter (s). 1 The first challenge for the Grady Medals was played at Greytown yesterday, when N. McLeod and W. Higgison (holders) defeated Andrews and Carr (Masterton Park), 27/14. i TOWN HALL “ICE CAPADES.” | ■ The outstanding musical comedy- I drama, “Ice Capades,” will be shown I tonight at the Town Hall, with Megan | Taylor, Dorothy Lewis. Phil Taylor and S James Ellison in the chief roles. |
