COUNTRY’S PRIDE
IN TROOPS IN PACIFIC. DECLARED BY SIR C. NEWALL. (Official War Correspondent, N.Z.E.F.) SOUTH PACIFIC BASE, Nov. 20. “The people of New Zealand are very, very proud of you,” said his Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, to soldiers of the Third (New Zealand) Division during his visit to them in the Solomons area. “They are very lucky to have you here,” he added. “This division has had a difficult task, with the reputation of the Middle East men to live up to, but when you were given the chance you put up a magnificent show, built up the traditions of New Zealand and added to the Dominion’s glory. “I know that in whatever other task may be yours you will do just as well as, and, if it is 'possible, even better than, in your first engagements. I wish you all the very best of luck. New Zealand is proud of you.”
