GALA WEEKEND

WAIRARAPA INTERHOUSE ACTIVITIES DRILL AND MARCHING CONTEST ON SATURDAY. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES AT NIGHT. With the prospect of fine weather the Wairarapa Interhouse Association’s an- ■ nual gala weekend in aid of the Patriotic Fund should be most successful. A keen spirit of friendly rivalry exists among the teams which are to compete in the drill and marching contest, and the girls can be relied on to give a first class display. The judges will be members of the Women s Auxiliary Army Corps. The uniforms are colourful and attractive and the green background of the Park Oval will make a good setting for them. The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, has advised that he will be present. Splendid entries have been received for the sports programme which will follow the drill and marching. A commentary on the running of the New Zealand Cup event at Ric Carton will be broadcast during the afternoon. On Saturday night in the American Red Cross Service Club in Masterton a dance will be held at which the presentation of trophies will take place. On Sunday afternoon a special marching display and band concert will be given in the Park by the Trentham military band. Activities will conclude on Sunday night in the Regent Theatre where a concert will be presented by the Trentham Military Band and a number of visiting artists. Intending patrons are urged to book their seats in order to avoid disappointment as the box plans are rapidly filling at the Regent Theatre. The Interhouse Association would be glad to have more billets for the visiting artists. ' The meeting of the girls’ executive committee which was to have been held tonight has been cancelled on account of the teams’ parade. The association’s aim is to exceed last year’s financial result.
