MAHUNGA GOLF CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING LAST NIGHT ELECTION OF OFFICERS. VOLUNTARY WORKERS PRAISED. Mr'A. O. Jones presided at the annual meeting of the Mahunga Golf Club last night, there being 46 members present. In moving the adoption of the annual report, the chairman congratulated the winners of trophies and the runners-up in the competitions. The condition of the links generally reflected credit on the work of the grounds committee, and he extended his congratulations to those responsible. On the financial side the club had come out very well. He felt sure that voluntary work carried out by members of the club was a big factor in influencing such a satisfactory position. In connection with the tea arrangements, he considered that the ladies responsible had carried out their duties in an excellent manner. The members generally were indebted to them and to the members of the committee who are tied to regular Saturday duties. The motion was seconded by Mr Brockett and carried. The election of officers resulted as fololws:—Patron, Mr T. Jordan; president, Mr G. H. Perry; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Hendry and A. O. Jones; captain, Mr I. I. McGregor; ladies' captain, Mrs N. Caldwell; committee, Miss Wyber, Messrs Sutherland, J. Morris, S. Jenkins, E. A. Earp, F. C. Brockett and Mrs D. A. Hunn; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr J. G. McFarlane; hon. auditor, Mr D. B. Curry. It was decided to again waive the entrance fee.
Miss' Wyber was granted free golf for the ensuing season. It was reported that Mrs Hunn had been appointed ladies’ captain for the ensuing season, and that Mesdames Perrin and Caldwell and Miss Gaynor constituted the ladies’ committee. Mr Brockett brought up the matter of the revision of local rules. Mr Sutherland said that until some stability had been arrived at in regard to fairways and the course generally, it was a most difficult matter to definitely decided on a standard of local rules.
Mr Ryan raised th? question of teas, with a suggestion that an increase of 3d might be considered. The position was explained by the secretary, an apparent loss appearing 'in the statement of accounts being brought about through sundry creditors from the previous season.
Mr A. E. Friend suggested that the greens could be considrably improved if work on the approaches and the greens was undertaken. The chairman asked that the Greens Committee note the suggestion. Votes of thanks were accorded to those who had made donations to the club or in any other direction had given assistance.
Mr Brockett brought up the question of putting in groynes owing to erosion, but after discussion it was considered that the matter was one which could not be undertaken by the club.
