AUTUMN SHOW
TO BE HELD AT CARTERTON DECISION OF WAIRARAPA P. & A. SOCIETY. BUSINESS AT SATURDAY’S 1 MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. A. McLeod presided over a meeting at Carterton on Saturday of the general committee of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society. Reference was made to the illness of Mr G. W. Hart, a member of the general committee, and a letter of sympathy is to be forwarded to him. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £1829 4s 7d. Mr Smart (secretary) submitted a balance sheet of the society’s finances, which was considered very satisfactory. He stated that the result of the recent show had demonstrated that the holding of it had been justified. The show had been a great success. The chairman said that the result was very gratifying. He thanked the secretary and the committeemen for the excellent work carried out by them. Messrs Geo. Brown stated that during the period when no show was held the secretary had asked that his salary should be reduced. Mr Brown said that he thought that the secretary should have his salary restored. It was unanimously resolved to do this. Mr McLeod stated that Mr R. G, Kemble had made a donation of £l5 to the society. Mr Kemble was accorded a vote of thanks. The Masterton A. and P. Association advised that it had been decided not to hold an autumn show. It was resolved that the secretary write to the Hon. Mr Ben Roberts, congratulating him upon his appointment as Minister of Agriculture. The use of the grounds was granted to the Wairarapa Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs’ Association for the annual competitions. Fourteen new members were elected and three resignations received. Mr W. Spicer, an employee on the showgrounds during the past 40 years, and who has retired, was elected a life member. In regard to the school children exhibits, Mr A. E. Hall contended that more space should be given to this section of the show. He suggested that extra accommodation should be erected for cheese and butter and the present space given up to school exhibits. It was resolved to forward the recommendation to the annual meeting. 'The chairman moved and Mr W. Howard Booth seconded, that the society hold an autumn show on February 15 and 16, 1944. The motion was carried, and the general committee will meet on Wednesday to make arrangements in connection, therewith.
