Burglary at Post Office.
Shortly before 4 a.m. yesterday burglars entered the post office at Queen Street, Northcote, opened a large strongroom with gelignite, and stole cash and stamps, including social security, health and ordinary stamps, of a total value of £3OO. An Anomaly Removed. Amended rehabilitation regulations gazetted last night provide that children of service men killed or totally incapacitated may qualify for benefits under the Rehabilitation Act, irrespective of whether the mother is living or dead. This removes an anomaly in the previous regulations which . debarred children of deceased service men from such benefits unless the mother were dead. Enjoyable Dance. Members of the staff of the Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-opc-rative Association held a most enjoyable staff dance in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, last night. There was a good attendance, which included visitors from Carterton. The music was supplied by a combined orchestra consisting of Mr J. Barnes’s orchestra and Mr Thorne’s orchestra. The combination was a most musical one. Mr Colin Reid efficiently carried out the duties of M.C. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr Challis and Miss Panapa. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee.
