WEDDING HAWKE—REED (“Times-Age” Special.) The marriage took place recently at St John’s Church, Featherston, of Elva Fay, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. V. Reed, Tauherenikau, and Desmond .Charles, only son of Mrs and the late Mr H. Hawke, Ward’s Line, Greytown. The Rev J. R. Higgs officiated at the ceremony and Mrs Raper was the organist. The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr R. Reed, wore a frock of white shimmer satin, with lace inlet and a tulle veil. She carried a bouquet of white flowers. Miss Beryl Hawke, sister of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid, and was attired in a frock of light blue voile over taffeta and wore a halo. Her bouquet was in lemon shades. Mr W. Gates was the best man. A reception was held in the Parish Hall. Mr and Mrs Hawke later left for the north, the bride wearing a navy suit with navy accessories. Croquet: Match. In a match played on the Featherston green yesterday the Featherston Croquet Club defeated the Haunui Club foi- the Gold Buttons (A grade). Patriotic Committee. Mr J. W. Card presided over a meeting of the Patriotic Committee held last night. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Di Riddiford, M. Williams, Luke Smith, J. Cassidy, C. Carlyon, W. Feast, Misses Card, B. Currie, A. Johnson, J. Tutbury, Messrs! A. White, A. S. Kilsby. It was reported that the Featherston quota for 19.43 had been fully subscribed. It was decided that a meeting be held early in December to make arrangements for the 1944 campaign. An appeal was received from Masterton for clean newspapers and for assistance for the packing of the unaddressed parcels. Out of the Wairarapa quota of 2345 parcels, Featherston was responsible for 169. Pre-Wedding Gathering. A very enjoyable time was spent in the Parish Hall on Tuesday night when a social gathering was held in honour of Miss Zoe Holland whose marriage is to take place shortly. The competitions were won by Misses Ngaire Tocker, Marjorie Tocker and two members of the orchestra. Community singing was led by Lieutenant Garrett, who also made a very capable M.C. An excellent orchestra provided the music for the dancing. After supper the Rev J. R. Higgs referred to the high esteem in which Miss Holland was held in the district, and called upon her to open the numerous parcels received, after which Mr Cecil Bain suitably replied on behalf of Miss Holland. COSY THEATRE “I LIVE ON DANGER.’’ The sensational picture, “I Live on Danger,” featuring Chester’ Morris and Jean Parker, will be shown tonight. The mystery drama, “Bombay Clipper,” is the associate picture, with Irene Hervey and William Gargam in the chief roles.
