CHILDREN’S CALF CLUB JUDGING AT WAIHAKEKE. (“Times-Age’’ Special.) ■J The judging of calves and lambs in _ connection with the Waihakeke School Calf Club took place at the school and ® created considerable interest among 0 the children and parents. Judging was ! .carried out by Mr Cedric Knutson | (calves) and Mr P. M. J. Oates (lambs). ! The judges stated that the calves and I lambs were a fine lot and had received ‘ excellent handling by the children. ' The results were as follow;— Lambs: Alan Jensen, 1; Noel Jensen, [ 2; Ron Lukies, 3. J Calves, care and handling: Peter Davies, 1; Melville Warrington, 2; Delma Jensen, 3. Dairy type (purebred): Alan Jensen, 1; Peter Davies, 2. Dairy type (grade): Ruth Hood, 1; Delma Jensen, 2; Melville Warrington, 3. Championship: Ruth Hood, 1; Alan Jensen, 2. Women’s Division Dance. In the Masonic Hall, Holloway Street, tonight, the Social Club of the Women’s Division of the Farmers, Union will hold a social gathering at which two interesting debating contests will take place. Stipper will be provided.

League of Mothers’ Meeting, Mrs Every presided over a large attendance at a meeting of the League of Mothers yesterday in the St.. Mark’s Hall. Members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of sympathy with Mrs Robinson.

The thought for the month was given by Mrs H. Knutson, and the hint by Mrs Archer. _ __ The president announced that there was still plenty of wool available for’ any member who could knit this wool into comforts for the armed forces. A duet by Miss Paterson and Miss Busby, and two solos by Miss Lawrence were greatly appreciated. The president reminded members of the church parade to be held at St. Mark’s Church on Sunday. The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs Blamires, who choose as the subject of her address, the life of the Soong family, the youngest daughter of this well-known family being China’s first lady, Madame Chiang Kai-shek. Mrs Tyler proposed a hearty vote of thanks tfo Mrs Blamires for her very interesting talk, which was carried by acclamation.

Mrs Every presented Mrs Blamires with a box of flowers. A vote of thanks was pased to the Rev. W. F. Stent for the use of the Anglican Hall for the meeting which was the last of the year. The president wished all members a happy Christmas and expressed the hope that next Christmas might be held in a world at peace. Soldier Honoured. Last evening the settlers of the Dalefield district entertained in the Dalefield Hall, -Pte. Norman Neilsen. The time was spent in dancing, the ■ music for which was supplied by Mrs Rogers. Several extras were played by members of the audience. Mr W. Press acted as M.C. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr K. Jamieson and partner. Mr Leslie J. Fairbrother referred in eulogistic terms to the personal qualities of the guest of the evening. He had been born and brought up amongst the residents of the district and was popular with everybody. He presented Pte. Neilsen with a shaving outfit, and wished him the best of luck. Pte. Neilsen suitably returned thanks. Supper was provided and 'presided over by the ladies of the district.
