WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting in the Memorial Hall when Mrs Atkinson presided over a good attendance of members. The delegates reported on the proceedings at the Federation meeting at Carterton. The president stated that Seaman Te Whaiti has asked her to thank the Institute for parcels, etc., which had been received by him. Mrs Watson, Martinborough, gave a demonstration of flower decorating. She was accorded a vote of thanks. The president made a presentation to Miss Doreen Priest, one of the Institute junior members, who is leaving shortly to enter the nursing profession. Two competitions were won by Mrs O’Brien with Mesdames Lovegrove and Priest second in each instance. The hostesses were Mesdames T. Hume and Gordon Sutherland. Shearing Operations. Shearing operations have been interrupted in this district by unfavourable weather. However, quite a large number of dry sheep have been shorn. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Frank Seward ' are spending a holiday in Masterton. Lieut. Babrow, U.S.M.C., was a visitor to Pirinoa at the weekend. Mrs D. J. Mclntosh, who has been staying with her daughter- at Rongokokako, has returned home. Miss J. Scrimegour is spending a few days with Mrs P. S. Macdonald. Messrs J. Sutton and R. Lovegrove will leave shortly to enter the Air Force. Among those repatriated from Italy is Private Reupena Riki, brother of Mr Joe Riki, Pukio. He was captured in Greece. Seaman D. Te Whaiti, who has been spending three weeks’ furlough with his relatives, left on Friday on his' return to his base. Miss Marge Hutana, has returned to Stratford after staying a few days with her mother, Mrs Bragg. Mr W. Pope has returned from a visit to Napier. Mr W . Hodges, Ranana, has returned to Wellington. ' Mr Graham Tilson has returned from a visit to Nelson. Mr J. H. Tilson is an inmate of a private hospital in Featherston. Whitebait Season. The whitebait season closed on Monday. Though good catches were made at intervals, the season was a poor one owing to adverse weather conditions.
