DISABLED SERVICE MEN
HELP AND INTEREST MATTERS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE Help and interest is essential to assist the returned disabled service man to take his right place in the community. The sub-centre of the Red- Cross Society, realising the position in Masterton, set about to form a club of those men needing assistance in such circumstances. These were but four and the sub-centre gave them the use of one of their sewing rooms and bought material for them to fashion into articles, pewter work and leather work. Gradually this was extended. The R.S.A. joined, in and the dormitory at the Soldiers’ Club was turned into a work shop. Power tools came in and a helper forwarded a splendid work bench. So the work goes on. The numbers have grown and will grow further. The workshop must be got' ready for larger numbers. The Rehabilitation Board or the vocational centre in Wellington do not apparently deal with these men, while still under hospital treatment. The sub-centre of the Red Cross Society is filling the bill but there is a lot to be done yet. These men need timber to work with. They have been given some but further supplies are necessary. They require also small tools and power tools.
