BOROUGH AFFAIRS
FEATHERSTON COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. THE FINANCIAL POSITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Featherston Borough Council there were present: The Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, Councillors G. A. Farrier, W. J. Boston, C. R. Skipage, B. B. Donald, C. C. Kenward and T. G. Hardie. Apologies for absence were received from Councillors H. W. Cundy, S. P. Batcheler and R. R. P. Hardy. The treasurer reported the following bank balances: —District Fund A/c., cr., £BB6 6s 4d; Cemetery A/c., cr., £l3l 2s 6a; Domain A/c., cr., £66 6s 3d; Mayor’s Relief Fund A/c., cr., £74 4s 9d; Water Supply Loan 1936 A/c., cr., £46 16s 3d; Library A/c., cr., £2B 13s 4d.
Accounts passed for payment totalled £2Ol 2s Id.
The Flight Lieutenant of Wellington Wing of the Air Training Corps wrote seeking help from the council in an endeavour to form a unit of the Air Training Corps in Featherston. It was resolved that lads from 16 years to 20 years be asked to join up. Mr F. W. Smith wrote asking that something be done to the footpaths in Bell and Wakefield streets. It was decided that the Works Committee carry out the necessary work. The Managing-Secretary of the Wairarapa Hospital Board wrote asking that every •• assistance' be given their dispenser when on a tour of inspection of E.P.S. medical outfits. It was agreed to do this. The Army Officer of the military subarea in Masterton wrote stating that the noxious weed nuisance in Fox and Daniell streets would be attended to. The secretary of the Services Club wrote asking that the council bear half the cost of the repairs to the piano on loan from the Anzac Hall. It was decided that as the piano was on loan the Services Club was ' expected to keep it in good order. A letter was received from the secretary of the Town Clerk’s organisation asking that the Town Clerk be granted leave to attend the annual conferencein Napier on February 22. The National Council for the Reclamation of Waste Material wrote asking that no more waste rubber be forwarded until further notice. It was reported that the baths were being painted in readiness for the coming season. It was announced that the work on the fence in the Domain No. 1 boundary was to be started on Monday next. The alteration to the Fire Station as carried out by the brigade members was endorsed. A discussion on the keeping of bulls within the borough ended with the suggestion that no bull should be kepi within sight of a road or footpath.
