WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
WAIRARAPA FEDERATION. COUNCIL MEETING AT CARTERTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) The half-yearly council meeting of the Wairarapa Federation of Women’s Institutes was held in the State Theatre, Carterton, yesterday. Miss Wolters (president) was in the chair, and delegates from all sixteen Institutes were present, as well as many visitors. The following remit was carried by 14 votes to 2: “That for the General Conference or District Council meetings the delegate should be given a free hand to vote, after hearing the discussion on remits; alternative, that discussion of the pros and cons on remits should take place in ‘Home and Country’ before the general conference, and before Institutes decide how to vote.” The results of the four minute report competition are as follows: —Over 30 'members: Carterton 1, Martinborough 2. Under 30 members: Dyerville and Kaituna-Fernridge (equal) 1, Kopuaranga 2. . During the morning session, Mrs Carey, a Dominion Executive member, o'ave a very interesting and instructive talk on the work of the Dominion Council, the work of Women’s Institutes generally, and the part' the Institutes should play in the work of rehabilitation and reconstruction. An amusing talk on her travels, in America was given by “Aunt Daisy,” of radio fame. An interesting display of handcrafts was made by members. A successful meeting was brought to a close by tire serving of afternoon tea.
