YOUTH WEEK

FINAL PHASE OF LOCAL CAMPAIGN MOTHER & SON TEA LAST NIGHT. GATHERINGS IN PARK. The Y.M.C.A. was crowded last night with a happy crowd when a Mother and Son tea was held. Preparations had been made for a large attendance but extra tables and chairs had to be provided and the overflow of patrons occupied the vestibule. Mrs Bannister was the chairwoman and welcomed the mothers and boys, and expressed pleasure at the large attendance present. The toast to mother was given by Rex Malmo and replied to by Mrs T. Jordan. Mrs Tolhurst gave the toast to the boys, which was responded to by Campbell Smith. Musical items were given by Peter Downs (piano) and Eric Price (mouth organ), encores being demanded in each case. Community singing was also indulged in, after which the audience went into the gymnasium where a number of excellent films were exhibited.

Mr J. H. Cunningham stated that Youth Week was gaining in momentum as the week progressed. On behalf of those present he thanked all performers and those who had assisted in the preparation of the tea. A special feature of the week’s programme ' will be a demonstration of girls and boys’ physical work in the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium commencing at 7.30 o’clock tonight. Mr Avon Tatton will give an exhibition which will be part of a bright and interesting programme. The presentation of awards will also take place. In anticipation of a large crowd extra seating accommodation has been arranged. Tomorrow afternoon there will be a grand parade of youth organisations 'followed by a service in the Masterton Park conducted by Captain Tl. Sutcliffe, C.A.

The parade will leave Windsor House at 2.15 o’clock for the park and will arrive there at 2.30 o’clock. The Municipal and Salvation Army bands will lead the procession and the singing in the park. Mr N. R. Cunningham will work a broadcast unit at the Park.
