GREAT TASK
FACING UNITED NATIONS RELIEF OF OCCUPIED EUROPE & FAR EAST. MR LEHMAN’S SURVEY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.50 a.m.) RUGBY, November 12. Mr Herbert Lehman. Director-Gen-eral of the United Nations Relief ahd Rehabilitation Administration, today promised the starving people of Occupied Europe and the Far East a diet of 2,000 balories daily as soon as the Allied armies liberated them. He said a large part of this food supply would come from their own domestic production, and the United States and other Allied nations would not have to supply them when their domestic production reached fullest effectiveness, as it had now done in North Africa. Mr Lehman added that the United Nations relief organisation would have its headquarters in Washington, with regional offices in London ahd the Far East. He also described the task of the repatriating of 20 million European refugees as “one of the most important difficulties” facing the United Nation? Relief and Rehabilitation Administration.
