GERMAN ATTACK
ON ISLAND OF LEROS FOOTING GAINED AT SOME POINTS. BRITISH AND ITALIAN DEFENCE. LONDON, November 12. British and Italian troops are resisting an attempt by the Germans to seize the Do- . decanese island of Leros, which was occupied by a British force in September. A Middle East communique states that some German parties which have gained a foothold are being dealt with. Other enemy attempts to land were repelled and a number of landing craft were destroyed. ALLIED AIR ACTION ENEMY BASES BOMBED , (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, November 12. R.A.F. fighters continued their attacks on enemy installations in Crete on Thursday. Heavy bombers attacked the airfield at Maritza, in Rhodes, the landing area being well covered. An airfield on Kos was also attacked. Aircraft attacked concentrations of landing barges off Galinos Island and the harbour was also bombed. Three Junkers 88 were destroyed by our ground defences during attacks on Leros. None of our aircraft are missing.
