CARTERTON
ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS PAST GRANDS’ LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) P.G. Sister M. E. Eagle presided over a meeting of the Loyal Wairarapa Past Grands’ Lodge held at Masterton last night. Visitors were present from Loyal Tarawa Lodge and the District Grand Master, Bro. R. Farrow, was in attendance. A vote of condolence was passed to Mrs J. F. Wallis and her son in their recent bereavement. It was mentioned that the late Bro. Jas. F. Wallis was a foundation member of the Past Grands’ Lodge when it was formed 33 years ago. Members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Bro. Wallis. One member of the Masterton Lodge was advanced to the Purple Degree and Lecture, and was accorded lodge honours. The District Grand Master installed the officers elect, Bro. H. Preston, of Masterton, as president for the ensuing 12 months, and Sister Mitchell as Warden. Bro. A. P. Smith, the vice-presi-dent, was unavoidably absent, and will be installed into office at the Carterton meeting in February. The installing master was assisted by Bro. Cooper, a member of the District Management Committee. GIRLS’ CLUB CONCERT RECEIPTS AND EXPENDITURE. The following is a statement of the receipts and expenditure in connection with the concerts given on November 2 and 3 by the Carterton Girls’ Club, when half the proceeds were to be donated to the Soldiers’ Farewell Tfund: — Receipts: Sale of tickets, programmes and donations, £75 10s Bd. Expenditure: Theatre, £4; printing and advertising, £7 6s 7d; cartage, 10s; costumes, 14s Id; total, £l2 10s 8d; balance, £63. At a committee meeting held last night it was decided that, owing to the financial success of the entertainment to donate £4O to the Soldiers’ Farewell Fund instead of the £3l 10s, and to make a donation of £lO to the Carterton Red Cross Society. Votes of thanks were passed to the theatre manager for havingi given the use of the hall for all practices, to Mr T. Udy’s Orchestra for having assisted with the music, and to all who helped to make the concert such a success. , Interesting Lecture. An interesting lecture was given in the Masonic Hall, Carterton, last night by Mr G. R. McChesney, showing the coronation ceremony of our Kings and its Israelitish origin and symbolism. Slides were shown of the crown- jewels and the rich regalia used and also some views of Westminster Abbey.
