TIES STRENGTHENED

CANADA & UNITED STATES LEGATIONS MADE EMBASSIES EXCHANGE OF AMBASSADORS (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) OTTAWA, November 11. The Canadian Legation at Washington and the United States Legation at Ottawa have been raised to the status of Embassies, with the Ministers of the two countries elevated to ambassadorial rank. Canada thus becomes the first British Dominion establishing the highest 1 diplomatic status in a foreign country, while the United States is the first nation establishing a similar status in a British Dominion. Mr Mackenzie King, in Ottawa, and Mr Cordell Hull, in Washington, issued a joint statement: “The Governments of Canada and the United States have announced that arrangements have been completed whereby the Legations of the two countries have been elevated to Embassy rank. The change will become effective upon the presentation of letters of credence. The ties of friendship which have so long bound Canada and the United States are thus further cemented by this accord.”
