V.M.C.A. GATHERING
FATHER AND DAUGHTER TEA.
EXCELLENT CONCERT PROGRAMME.
Youth Week activities were continued in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Masterton, last night, when a father and daughter tea was held. There was a large and happy gathering. The president, Mr J. A. Kennedy, presided, and welcomed those present. A community sing led by Mr J. J. Hunter was heartily enjoyed. Mr B. Iveson played the music.
Beryl Mills proposed the toast to the fathers and Mr J. F. Jaine replied. Clair Evans sang (the accompaniments being played by Miss D. Kemp), and elocutionary items were given by Beryl Henderson.
A splendid concert was later held in the gymnasium. Items were contributed by the Townswomen’s Guild, vocal solos by Misses B. Barnes, N. Blackwood and J. H. Douglas. Miss B. Henderson danced and a pianoforte duet was given by Misses Greig and Grey. An orchestra under Mr J. Grey gave appreciated items. Mi’ D. E. Lyttle, vice-president, thanked the performers and the public for its support. Tonight a mother and son tea will be held and a free movie programme w”' follow. SATURDAY'S GATHERING. Tomorrow afternoon’s gathering at the Park promises io provide a great time and plenty of fun for the children. The organisations taking part in the demonstrations will assemble at the Dixon Street entrance to the Park at 1.45 p.m., and headed by the Salvation Army Band, march on to the Oval. Mr H. Nuttall will be marshal. The Girl Guides will break the flag at 2 p.m. and this is to be followed by a short address. The Guides and Brownies, St. John Cadet Division, and Scouts and Cubs, will give demonstrations of their work in the above order. The St. John Cadet Division will compete for a cup. Following the demonstrations there will be games and races for all the children, with a treasure hunt to finish up the afternoon. GYMNASTIC DISPLAY. In the evening the Y.M.C.A. gymnastic display and presentation of awards will take place. The gymnastic exhibitions are always a feature of the Y.M.C.A. work, and under the able guidance of Mr .Avon Tatton, this year’s presentation promises to be up to the usual high standard. OPEN AIR SERVICE ON SUNDAY. Youth Week will conclude with a big parade and open air service on Sunday afternoon. Practically every local young people’s organisation will be on parade —Guides, Girls’ and Boys' Brigades, Bible Class'es, Scouts, St. John Cadet Division, and others. The assembly point will be the Hotel Windsor corner, and headed by the combined Salvation Army and Municipal Band, the parade will march to the Park Oval. Here a programme will be gone through and Captain Sutcliffe, C.A., will give an address.
