NO REQUEST
RECEIVED BY AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT FOR AIR & NAVAL BASES AFTER WAR (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. “No request has been made by any country to the Australian Government for the use of naval and air bases after the war,” the Federal Prime Minister (Mr Curtin) stated. He was commenting on cabled reports that discussions on the use of naval and air bases had begun between Australia and New Zealand and the United States. Mr Curtin said the Commonwealth Government had not been asked to hand over any part of the Commonwealth territories to any other country for use as a base. The matter, therefore, had never been considered by the Government.
