Mr S. N. Ziman, Hamilton, has been reappointed to the New Zealand University Senate, a position he has held since 1937.
Police Superintendent C. W. Lopdell, Wellington, who had been visiting Masterton, returned to Wellington this morning.
The engagement is announced between Constance Amy, second and twin daughter of Mrs and the late Mr R. C. Austin, Pahiatua, and Geoffry Harold, only son of Mr and Mrs H. Fulton, Northland, Wellington. The death occurred at Nelson on Tuesday of a highly respected resident of that city in the person of Mrs Amy O’Hara Smith, mother of Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith, Town Clerk, at Masterton, at the age of 83 years. Mr O'Hara Smith is at present in Nelson. The following ex-Wairarapa pupils have passed in the subjects mentioned in connection with the Victoria University College examinations:—Zoology, Stage 1., medical intermediate. P. C. Durward. J. C. Kerslake. Political Science, Option B, Section 8.A.. A. A. Ross; final 8.A., Phyllis M. Pettit. The health of the Prime Minister. Mr Fraser, who recently underwent an operation in a Wellington private hospital, continues to show steady improvement, said the Deputy Prime Minister. Mr Nash, last night. He' added that in the last day or two Mr Fraser had been able to be up for short periods. It was not yet known when the Prime Minister would be out of hospital.
The appointment of two full-time members of the Rehabilitation Board, the chairmanship of which he had now assumed, was announced yesterday, by the Minister of Rehabilitation, Major Skinner. They are Messrs S. W. Gaspar and C. W. Batten, both at present members of the board; who, with the director, Lieut.-Colonel F. Baker, D. will form a central executive committee. Lieut.-Colonel Baker has also been appointed a member of the Rehabilitation Council and the Rehabilitation Board. The funeral- of the late Mr Rodger Z. Renall took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. The services at the residence and graveside were conducted by the Rev A. C. Lane. There was a large and representative cortege and many beautiful wreaths were received, among others, from the president and membersi of the Masterton Bowling Club and the management and staff of the Alfa Laval Separator Company. The pall-bearers were Messrs D. Logan, R. F. Cooper, C. McKay, E. W. Neilson, E. G. Hart and W. Christian.
