AIRMAN RESCUED
FROM BURNING PLANE GALLANT ACT OF POUAWA RESIDENT OTHER OCCUPANT OF MACHINE KILLED (By Telegraoh—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. A gallant effort by Mr IM. L. (Pat) Holden, of Pouawa, saved the life of Flying Officer Douglas James Nilsson, when an aircrart cf the R.N.Z.A.F. hit a building at Pouawa, 15 miles north cf Gisbor'rte. The aircraft, which was piloted by Flying Officer Roland Henry Browne, caught, fire after striking the building. Browne losing his life. Mr Holden, the owner of the property, rushed ro the burning aircraft and managed to extricate Flying Officer Nilsson, but in the process received burns which necessitated his admission to hospital. .. Flying Officer Nilsson, whose wife, a daughter of Mrs B. R. Bunny, of Masterton, resides in Gisborne, was admitted to hospital and classified as seriously injured. Flying Officer Browne's wife resides in Parnell. An investigation into the cause of the accident is being held.
