CARTERTON

WEDDING STEFFENSEN—BOND. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very pretty wedding took place at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Carterton, recently, when Cynthia Beverley, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. ■Bond, was married to Sapper Robert Lewis Steffensen (N.Z.E.F.), who is on furlough from the Middle East), third son of Mr and Mrs A. G. Steffensen, Petone. The bride, who entered the church escorted by her father, wore a gown of ivory satin cut on classic lines, with a heart-shaped neckline. The tulle veil, which was lent by her cousin, fell in long folds' over the train of her gown, and was held in place by a top-knot of orange blossoms. She carried a sheaf of cream roses, tulips and lily of the valley. . The bridesmaids were Misses Gloria and Ngaire Bond/sisters), who were dressed alike in ivory satin striped taffeta, with top-knots of deep red roses, and carried sheaves of deep red flowers. The best man was Sapper C. Walker, Wellington (who is also on furlough), and the groojnsman was Mr N. Steffensen, brother of the bridegroom. The church was beautifully decorated by Mrs Ansell, a friend of the bride. During the signing of the register, Mrs H. Hansen, of Tiraumea, sang “I’ll Walk Beside You,” and little Josephine Baillie presented the bride with a horse shoe. Sapper and Mrs Steffensen were piped from the church by a cousin of the bride ,Mr lan Bond. A reception was held in the Masonic Hall, Carterton, where Mrs Bond and Mrs Steffensen received nearly one hundred guests. After the reception the guests joined in dancing to music supplied by Mrs Houlbrooke and Mr Rowden, of Tiraumea. When Sapper and Mrs Steffensen left for the South Island, Mrsi Steffensen was wearing a dusky pink frock and hat with black accessories and a fur jacket, the gift of the bridegroom. ORDER OF DRUIDS JUVENILE LODGE MEETING. Arch Druid Bro. A. F. Stretton presided over the meeting of Pioneer Lodge No. 25, held last night. All the officers were present, twenty-nine members signing the attendance book. .Matters in connection with the dance to be held in the State Theatre were finalised, and the help of a committee of ladies is to be arranged. The Grand President, Bro. H. Harker, wrote congratulating the Lodge on the excellent start made, and impressed on (members the necessity of attention to Lodge duties and to use every effort to induce friends to become members. A special effort is to be made to launch a general campaign to increase the membership. It is proposed that on November 23 a selection of officers be made ,and so give the chance of promotion to those who qualify. At the conclusion of business, games were indulged in by members. New Season’s Wool Clip. Wool is being brought in from the Gladstone and coastal districts fairly regularly just now for shipment to Wellington. Imported Heifer Dies The death has occurred through heart failure of Mr K. G. Fairbrother’s imported Canadian-bred pedigree Friesian heifer, Colony Korndyke Vale. The death of this heifer is not only a severe loss to her owner but also to the Friesian breed in New Zealand as many leading judges considered that she would have exercised a most beneficial influence on the breed when her blood became distributed. Classified V.H.C. during her first lactation, Colony Korndyke Vale, despite the fact that she was not forced at any stage, it being Mr Fairbrother’s intention to make a grand lifetime record in preference to any outstanding individual record, made three excellent records under C.O.R. Colony Korndyke Vale is survived by the son she was carrying when she arrived in New Zealand, Dalefield Sii Romeo Vrouka, who has not yet been defeated in the show-ring and by three daughters, all sired by Colony Flood Perfection 14th (imp.)
