RECORD BROKEN BY WAIRARAPA HEIFER For the third time in three seasons a Wairarapa junior 3-year-old pedigree Friesian heifer has created a new breed record Tor her class under C.O.R. test. Monavale Queen Bess was the' first junior 3-year-old Friesian heifer to produce over 8001 b fat, making a record of 800.181 b fat in 1922. This record stood until September, 1941, when the first of the Wairarapa heifers to break the record, Koromiko Buttercup (M. J. Parker) completed a record of 800.531 b fat. This return stood as the record only until July, 1942, when her herd mate, Koromiko O.K. Lass, set a new high figure of 801.171 b fat. Now, by completing her 365-day period under test on September 6, 1943, with 803.931 b fat, Totara Defender Flapper, a junior 3-year-old heifer owned by E. P.« McAnulty, Parkville, has raised her class record by a further 2.761 b fat. Totara Defender Flapper, which was bred by the Piri Land Co., was one of the 40 heifers purchased by J. Callesen in 1940 and offered for sale by him at Palmerston North in July, 1941, where she was secured by Mr McAnulty for 35gns. In her first lactation commenced at the age of 1 year 355 days she yielded 10,737.51 b milk and 392.551 b fat in 305 days under Govt. O.H.T.
