TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
EIGHTH BIRTHDAY. CELEBRATED IN MASTERTON YESTERDAY. The Masterton Townswomen’s Guild held its Bth birthday celebrations in the Methodist Hall yesterday afternoon, the president, Mrs Copp, presiding over a very large attendance. The president welcomed members and visitors and gave as her thought for the day “A quiet mind is richer than a crown.” The president was presented with a bouquet by the secretary, and she in turn presented the secretary and treasurer with a bouquet each. All the committee members, leaders of circles, and members taking a prominent part in the Guild were each presented with a shoulder spray. The president then introduced Mrs G. H. Mackley, who was presented with a shoulder spray. She stated that this was her first public appearance in Masterton. After lighting the 8 candles she wished the Guild many happy returns of the day. Mrs Judd then blew the candles out and Mrs Copp cut the cake, which was iced by Mrs Butler. A pianoforte duet was played by Mrs Barnes and Miss Worrall, and this was followed by two items by the singing circle, and solos by Mesdames Speight and Burke. Afternoon tea was then served during which the members viewed the exhibits made by the papier mache group and the arts and crafts circle. A play entitled .“The Sad Affair at Marget Street,” was very cleverly acted by members of the drama circle. The hall was beautifully decorated by the garden circle. The top of the birthday cake was won by Mrs Parrish and the lucky cup by Mrs Morton.
