Sheepskins for Russia.
Over £llOO for the purchase of sheepskins for use in the manufacture of winter clothing for the Russian forces was subscribed at a rally held under the auspices of the Auckland Trades Council at the Town Hall on Saturday night. It was announced that there were promises of more donations to come. There were about, 700 people at the rally, over which the Mayor, Mr J. A. C. Alluni, presided.
"Gene” Tunncy Visits New Zealand. A famous American boxer, Commander James Joseph (“Gene”) Tunncy, who held the world’s heavyweight championship in 1926-28, and relit cd undefeated, has arrived in Auckland to inspect eUni led Stales naval physical culture training activities in New Zealand. Commander Tunncy serves, in (he Bureau of Personnel and is olTicer in charge of the American Navy’s physical training programme, for instituting and developing which he has been very largely responsible.
