EAST SCHOOL
ANNUAL BAZAAR. COMPETITION WINNERS. The grounds of the Masterton East School presented an animated appearance on Saturday on the occasion of the annual bazaar. The parents and friends were welcomed by the president (Mr G. Bilderbeck), who made reference to the improvements in the grounds, and to the payment of the school’s quota for the erection of the Central School Dental Clinic, which had been made possible by the generous support accorded to the association’s activities. Messages of goodwill and donations had been sent by several former members of the association.
All the stalls, including the children’s stall, whicli was stocked with their handwork for the year, did a thriving business.
Selections were played- during the afternoon by the Central School Boys’ Band. Another attraction was an aviary, in which Mr Trevor Davies, assisted by Mr T. Munn, showed a varied and interesting collection of cage birds.
Competitions were won as follow:— Cooking:—Sponge: Mrs G. Selby, 1; Mrs Dean, 2. Scones: Mrs Brogden, 1; Mrs Devery, 2. Pikelets: Mrs Bell, 1; Mrs Speight, 2. Girls’ pikelets: Jane Sheet, 1; Noreen Burr, 2. Boys’ naildriving: R. Anstis, 1; A. Garard, 2. Other competitions resulted as follow. —lced cake, Mrs Mannell; Sunday dinner, C. Ross, 90 Cornwall Street; cushion, Nurse Phillips; duchesse set, Mrs Oakley. After expenses have been* met, the funds of the association will benefit by approximately £BO.
