WEDDINGS
BILLINGTON—CARSTENS. The Knox Church, Masterton, was beautifully decorated with cream lilies and red roses for the wedding on Saturday afternoon of Patricia Dawn, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Carstens, of Essex Street, Masterton, to Alan Robert, youngest son of Mr and Mrs H. Billington, Colombo Road, Masterton. The Rev. David McNeur officiated. Mi- C. W. Kerry was organist, and he also played at the reception.
The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in a gown of magnolia lace over soft satin. She wore an embroidered tulle veil with a coronet of orange blossom and carried a shower bouquet of lily-of-the-valley, tiny arum lilies and maidenhair fern.
The bridesmaids were Misses Isabel Dronfield (Wellington) and Margaret Wrigley (Masterton). They were dressed in pretty frocks cut on classical lines of deep cream windswept georgette and wore toning roses in their hair. Each carried a bouquet of red roses and toning flowers. Mr Gordon Fisher was best man and Mr Norman Munn was groomsman. Basil Carstens and Eldon Peterson were ushers at the church.
The reception was held at the Masonic Hall where Mesdames Carstens and Billington received the guests, which included visitors from Wellington and Christchurch. Mrs' Carstens wore a black suit with a shoulder spray of vietyc and pink roses. Mrs Billington was attired in a navy blue costume and wore a shoulder spray of primula and cyclamen. At the church. Mr J. Gallagher played a violin solo, Schubert’s . “Ave Maria,” and at the reception Aircraftman Ron. Gilbert sang “Bless This House.”
The wedding cake was a present from Mrs D. A. McMillan. The church was decorated by Mrs D. Duncan, assisted by Mrs F. J. Traynor and Miss M. Wrigley. The Rev. D. McNeur proposed the toast of the bride and bridegroom, MiFrank Peterson that of the bride’s parents, and Mr McGovern that of the bridegroom’s parents. For travelling the bride was attired in an Air Force blue costume with black satin accessories and a pretty pink shoulder spray was worn. Mr and Mrs Billington’s future home will be in Masterton. HARVEY-YEREX Gowned in cream silk taffeta with inset lace yoke, Dawn, elder daughter of Major and Mrs G. F. Yerex, of Lower Hutt, made a charming bride for her wedding on Saturday afternoon at St. James’s Church, Lower Hutt, to Colin, second son of Mr and Mrs B. R. Harvey, of Pahiatua. Her bridesmaids (Chilton St. James school friends). Phyllis Fawcett and Margaret Camden-Cooke, paired in pink georgette with lilac lace yokes and head-veils. Mr Campbell Daveys (Te Puke), a returned soldier, was best man, and the bridegroom’s brother, Mr William Harvey, was groomsman. The bridegroom had two years’ service overseas in the Middle East and the Pacific. The reception was held in Major and Mrs Yerex’s residence in Waterloo Road, where Mesdames Yerex and Harvey (aunt of .the bridegroom) received the guests. On account of illness, the bridegroom’s mother was not able to be present. When Mr and Mrs Harvey left for the south, the bride travelled in a powder blue costume, with hat to match.
